Anacafe buys from FVH for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW!

May 31, 2008

On Thursday my wife Nina and I spent the whole morning at Barefoot Coffee Roasters in Santa Clara, California, cupping our microlots.  It was my first time there and it was both an eye opening experience as well as quite moving.  I will post more about this soon.

We then were treated by the kind folks at Ritual to eat at SPORK in San Francisco.  Yes, you eat with a stainless steel spork.  During the dinner conversation which of course involved some coffee talk, the topic of “super tasters” came up.

Chris Owens commented on how cuppers at origin are often not valued enough.  Despite the fact that many rarely cup coffees not from their country, they will certainly be the most familiar with coffees that are from their country.  And this is why it is a privilege for us to be chosen among all of the best of Huehuetenango to represent the region for Guatemala around the world in different shows and events.  They purchased right before SCAA Minneapolis to be able to offer fresh crop.  This would have made Carlos proud.  We value this recognition as the greatest award we might get as it is blindly evaluated by those who know Guatemalan coffees best.
